Beginnings, endings.

After Danny Copacetic passed away, I was asked to take over his site Indieradio and try to keep it going. I’m going to be taking up blogging and writing about music over there and while Uncritical may live on as a smaller feature, its taking up much of my time to get it running again. If you have interest in some free CDs and would like to help out writing reviews and blog content, please drop me a line.

Over two years ago, this was the last post ever made to my mp3 blog Uncritical. What happened? There’s been no shortage of time in which to begin this site, no lack of desire to do so. I can offer justifications and excuses aplenty. The real reason is simply this: How do you stand in the shoes of a man who helped you begin a path that’s changed your life? For all I love to write about music, how can what is practically my diary be good enough to both pay my respects and contribute to his legacy?

I came to the decision last night that my fears of failing to achieve Danny’s level of quality shouldn’t cause this site to languish as a bare blog template. So I offer this humble apology to a friend and pray that he hears: I’m sorry. But I think I finally figured out one of the things you taught me by example. I won’t forget again.

The landscape for mp3 blogs has changed over the past few years. A spirit of sharing and being a part of something has ceded way to media interests, advertising dollars, and promotional campaigns. Is there still a place for the kind of blog I used to write? I don’t know. But that won’t stop me writing it.
